The BBC's Cherry Healey visited our lab to explore the science behind how honey is made, as part of an Inside the Factory episode about Strepsils Honey & Lemon lozenges. Our own Dr Jonathan Pattrick and beekeeper Mark Lynch guided Cherry and the viewers through the remarkable journey from floral nectar to honey, explaining how bees collect, transport, transform and store honey - and why honeybees produce honey in the first place.
Honey production is inseparable from honeybee colony health. Our lab’s research in bee nutrition, physiology and feeding behaviour investigates how diet and environment shape bee health and performance. By uncovering the biological links between what bees eat and how colonies function, we aim to provide evidence-based insights that help beekeepers support healthy, productive colonies.
